Z-Wave is a specification for wireless communication in home automation. In Europe, Z-Wave uses the frequency of 868.42 MHz, which is not to be confused with NEXA's previous range that went under Nexa Professional, which also uses 868 MHz. Below we have compiled some advantages of Z-Wave over, for example, 433.92 MHz. The range of Z-Wave is no better than 433.92 MHz, but with the help of all devices in a network meshing, the range is still markedly better. Dubbling communicationDubbel-directional communication means that each receiver actually responds every time it receives a command, so that you as a user always know if your command has reached the device. If the device does not respond, try to find other ways to it, more on that in the section below. MeshA Z-Wave network meshes devices which means that commands (e.g. ON) jump between multiple devices until it arrives at the correct device, if it arrives. This extends both range and stability. SäkerhetZ-Wave is not encrypted by default, but in the case where devices support encryption, this is automatically enabled. This means that all communication between your Nexa Bridge and device is encrypted. Created for home automation Unlike, for example, 433.92 MHz (which is just a frequency, not a standard), Z-Wave is basically made for home automation. The protocol is constantly being expanded with new types of devices and what can be done today will not be the same in a few years. Although it is currently mostly used for sensors and switches, it will be possible for manufacturers to build support into, for example, TVs or dishwashers. Compatibility between different manufacturersBecause Z-Wave is a standard where you have to follow a certain number of rules to get certified, this means that products that come from different manufacturers work with each other. This in itself means that prices can be squeezed and that there is a greater choice for consumers. Z-wave PlusZ-wave Plus is an improvement on Z-Wave. With Plus, both user-friendliness and the function are supposed to be better, for example, the range has been significantly improved by up to 150 meters in the open view. To be able to take advantage of all the advantages of Z-Wave Plus, all your other devices must also make use of Plus, something that will be difficult today because there is still a lot on the market that does not use this. But it's backward compatible, so all your products you have now work with other devices that have Z-Wave Plus.
