Vitamin C, also known as L-ascorbic acid or ascorbate, is a water-soluble antioxidant vitamin, essential for the vital activities of all cells with a broad spectrum of action: it protects against many toxic substances and free radicals; participates in the synthesis of numerous organic molecules such as adrenal hormones, interferon, collagen, carnitine and in the processes of cellular respiration; promotes the absorption of minerals such as iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium; intervenes in supporting the immune defenses in the production of antibodies, in the reinforcement of phagocytic functions and therefore in the increase of the body's resistance; it is part of the energy production processes; intervenes in the development of fibroblasts, in the transport of oxygen and electrons.
