The DS1220 is a precision 24-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) designed to reduce system cost and component count for small sensor signal applications. The device features a flexible multiplexer input (MUX), low noise, programmable gain amplifier, two excitation current sources, a voltage reference, an oscillator, a low-side switch, and an accurate temperature sensor, supporting two differential or four single-ended inputs. The device supports data rates up to 2000 samples per second with a single conversion cycle. At 20 SPS, the digital filter provides simultaneous 50 Hz and 60 Hz rejection for industrial noise suppression. The internal programmable gain amplifier offers high gain settings up to 128 V/V, making the ADS1220 ideal for measuring small sensor signals such as resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), thermocouples, thermistors, and resistive bridge sensors. The device supports fully differential or pseudo-differential signal measurements using the integrated multiplexer. It can also be configured to provide high input impedance and gain up to 4 V/V for single-ended measurements. In duty cycle mode, when the device is in standby, power consumption is as low as 120 A. The ADS1220 is available in a lead-free VQFN-16 or TSSOP-16 package and is specified for operation over the temperature range of -40C to +125C.
